Poppe Braam and Gerard van de Braak from De Valksche Hof have been working together for many years. Together, they placed the first bee colonies at the Harselaar Barneveld industrial park. A complete novelty at the time. After the purchase of the office farm in Voorthuizen, several beehives were set up on the DIT-IT site in early 2021. Five colonies were placed, which were immediately able to pollinate the fruit blossoms. They also pollinated the sown buckwheat. Later in the year, Gerard added a number of new people. Read VolKjes, because these were tiny bee colonies of 'only' a few thousand bees and a young, unfertilized queen. The goal of these small bee colonies is to allow the new queen (of the Buckfast breed) to perform a successful bridal flight, and then use the eggs she will lay to let the population grow back into a new production colony for next year. At the beginning of August, a number of peoples were removed. These peoples were already so beautifully developed that they contained at least 20,000 bees. They temporarily stayed on the Vierhouter heath, where they made delicious heather honey. These peoples have now been brought back to DIT-IT because the heathland has bloomed. The Valksche Bijenhof harvested the honey, and now they're feeding the bees some sugar water to make sure they have enough food throughout the winter. There are now 28 bee colonies at DID-IT to hibernate, and together we are curious what condition we will find them in again in the spring!
