On Saturday, October 5, the Kalverliefde open day was held at farmer Gerlof and farmer Bas's Noaberhoeve in Echten/Drenthe to celebrate the 2nd anniversary.
Janine van der Drift, the founder of Kalverliefde, organized an open day for “farmers, citizens and foreigners”.
It was a full program in which Janine first talked about animal love, daughters and passion for calving in the cow that gave birth to her mission. The road she took, 2½ years ago, with farmer Gerlof and 3 other biologically dynamic farmers.
The pitches at the supermarkets, the start with 250 liters of milk, which quickly became much more than that of several BD farmers. In addition to Albert Heijn and Plus, Kalverliefde's Jumbo customer has recently also been.
Marjolein de Rooy from the Trade Union for Animals www.vakbondvoordieren.nl/ talked about the research into cow language, with what sound does the cow want to say what.
Then photographer Jack Tummers showed how best to photograph the cow in the pasture with a mobile or camera.
Lesley from Eyes on Animals, www.eyesonanimals.com/en/ showed how they ensure that animals are treated properly in animal husbandry, dairy farmers, chickens, transport and slaughterhouses in various ways.
Farmer Bas gave a tour to the cows and calves. He talked about his own motivation to become a BD farmer. About the Frisian Dutch cows, why this breed, and also the Groninger Blaarkop. About the country and the surrounding area, what's important. How long a cow can calve, how long the calf stays with the cow and how much milk that saves the farmer. What is important for the cow is herb-rich grass and concentrates.
Of course, there was also a story about Agroforestry by farmer Gerard Keurentjes. And they could participate in milking the cows.
DID-IT attended with Poppe, Martin and Martha. In addition to heifers, there are also bull calves at the farmers of Kalverliefde. Since Jersey calves are already growing up at De Braamstruik, Kalverliefde's bullcalves may also be “adopted”.
