BRAZIL visit
For Poppe Braam DID-IT, there is a long history in Brazil.
In 1993, Terra Preservada founded with the help of Poppe Braam DO-IT and Hans Friese Ciranda, 2 sister companies where DO-IT imported into Europe and Ciranda into the United States.
A project in southern Brazil, Parana, around the Natural Park of Iguazu, where existing agriculture was converted to organic, for soya and tapioca, with crops such as beans, corn and wheat.
There were a few large farmers and small farmer cooperatives who participated in the project, supervised by experts from — IBD Institute of Biodynamics.
The goal was and is organic soy and tapioca for export and local sales to maintain rainforest, biodiversity and habitats with social structures.
It is still a thriving project, under the name since 2012 Biorganics, where Poppe is actively involved as a DID-IT
On March 9, Poppe and Frouwkje Braam, DID-IT, together with Astrid Dossche from De Hobbit, supplier of organic soy products, left for Brazil to visit Biorganica and Tofutura.
The organic project is mainly focused on Parana's local market with the city of Curitiba. The soya is partly processed for soy oil, soy cake, and tofu. The export is mainly soya for organic animal feed. Tofutura was set up with Biorganica in 2012 with the expertise of Frederik Dossche from De Hobbit and Poppe Braam to meet the local demand for tofu. The tofu is sold under the brand Samurai in organic stores and supermarkets such as organic tofu.
