Hay for the Jersey bulls

No items found.

Last weekend, there was hay in the meadows of De Braamstruik farm where the Jersey bull calves are taken care of.

Raising the Jersey bull calves is a project by DID-IT and the Eyckenstein farm where they move after six months.

The bulls, which were otherwise quickly slaughtered for animal feed, now stay with the mother for a few weeks and then come to the farm. There, they are fed with organic milk and hay and a specific herbal mixture in an open stable with plenty of straw until they go to pasture.

The dry and sunny weather of the past few weeks has been ideal for the grass to grow and be mowed. Over the weekend, there was hay with the help of the residents of the farm. The attic is again full of fresh organic hay bales for the young bulls and for the winter.

138 Jersey bull calves have now been raised from 6 organic farmers until they can move to Eyckenstein.

After two and a half years, they are slaughtered. The extremely tasty meat is delivered and sold to a number of organic stores, including Odin stores.
